About Barkly
We are one of the most isolated roadhouses in Australia. Barkly Homestead is owned and operated by a local rural family who take great pride in providing a beautiful place for all travellers to enjoy. We generate our own power using solar, and diesel generators during peak season and can use up to 500 litres of diesel per day. We also maintain our own bore and treat our own water – it is safe to drink.
Outback Oasis
We do all this without government assistance so please consider this as sometimes things can briefly go wrong. We do like to provide our customers with a pleasant outback experience so please be mindful to leave all items behind for others to use, such as wine glasses, forks and hoses. It a long way to go to buy more! During peak times it can be busy, and we do appreciate your patience and kindness. We absolutely love living in the outback on the Barkly Tablelands. The seasons can be varied, and flies and dust are our way of life. We do hope you enjoy your time with us, and we wish you safe travels through this magnificent part of the NT.
